MINUTES OF ACTIVITIES
Wednesday, February 24, 2010
In the morning groups of pupils and teachers from Cagliari and Barcelona arrived in Rome and reached Liceo "Augusto". Pupils and teachers were welcomed by Vice Principal Giovanna De Donato and teachers Silvia Minniti and Carlo Panizzon who showed them around the school. At the end of the school day host students from Liceo "Augusto" met their guests from Barcelona and Cagliari and took them home.
In the afternoon a group of students from Rome, Cagliari and Barcelona was given a guided tour to the city center by some students from Liceo "Augusto". The guided tour was in Spanish in order to offer Liceo “Agusto” students, who study this language, the chance to get some practice. In the evening pupils and teachers from Berlin arrived at Rome's Ciampino Airport. Host families met their guests from Berlin and took them home.

8.10-13.10
Liceo "Augusto" Principal Clara Rech greeted principals, teachers and pupils from visiting schools wishing them a successful meeting for the project "Cities of Europe".
The whole morning was dedicated to presentations and reports by participating students who were divided into four groups, one for each participating school. Pupils reported on achievements of each school group so far in text or Power Point format.
A coffee break was arranged between 11:05 and 11:20.
Afternoon and evening were left free both for students and teachers. Some of the students spent some leisure time together. Teachers dined together in a restaurant in the city centre.
Friday, February 26, 2010
8.10-11.05
Participating students were divided into six groups with at least one student from each school. Three groups met in the computer lab, while the remaining three groups convened in the language lab. Groups were supervised by teachers from Liceo “Augusto”. Students were grouped according to the topics they had dealt with and reported upon on Thursday. Students were asked to debate some issues in order to plan the future development of their joint work. Here are the questions they were asked to go through:
A. OUTLINE SIMILARITIES DIFFERENCES AND SO FAR IN YOUR PRODUCTS
A1. Has your products Any common features?
A2. If yes, Which ones?
A3. If not, what is distinctive in each of them?
B. PLAN THE END OF YEAR EXHIBITION
B1. What elements do you think should be highlighted in the exhibition?
B2. What kind of products and artifacts can you include in the exhibition to achieve this goal?
(Written texts, photos, videos ...)?
B3. How can artifacts and products be arranged?
(Outline headings and subheadings For Each topic).
C. FUTURE WORK PLAN
C1. How can you further develop your topic?
C2. What other product /document do you need to prepare for the final exhibition?
C3. What else do you need to do before the next meeting?
While students were engaged in group work, teachers held a meeting in the multimedia room in order to arrange the end of year exhibition to be set up in Barcelona in May.
The following points were discussed:
1. Exact dates for the Barcelona meeting;
2. Size and type of material for the exhibition;
3. Sending and Arranging material;
4. Access to the e-twinning platform.
1. Meeting dates
As to meeting dates Margarida Gonzalez and Patricia Mateo pointed out that students’ families in Barcelona can accommodate guest pupils for four days and three nights. They also explained that guests had better leave before Saturday, May 22 in order to allow host families to organize their long weekend, considering it is bank holiday in Catalonia at that time. However Franca Giglio, Rita Pinna and Carlo Panizzon asked to end the meeting on Saturday 22 May, since both pupils and teachers from Rome and Cagliari have to go to school on Saturday. The dates were not agreed upon. Two options were suggested: either from Tuesday 18 to Friday, 21 or from Wednesday, 19 to Saturday 22 May. A choice between these options has to be agreed upon by partners in the upcoming weeks.
2. Exhibition Material
As to the size and type of material students will produce for the exhibition to be set up in Barcelona Franca Giglio and Carlo Panizzon asked to limit the production to digital material in order to minimize transport problems. In fact digital documents can easily be sent by e-mail to all schools in each city. they can be printed and set up on panels for the exhibition. Silke Matzeit and Thomas Schäfer, reporting also the view of Christian Düntsch, project coordinator, confirmed that the products made by students must have a material consistency in order to make the most of the unique creativity of young students in exploring the theme of city development in Europe. They also stated that, according to the application sent to Comenius national agencies, the exhibition should consist of real objects and unique material which should be sent to aech school in turn and not of the same digital material to be set up in each school at the same time. After a thorough discussion it was agreed that the exhibition in Barcelona will be mostly made up of posters produced by pupils. There will be a poster for each common topic developed by each school. Every poster will consist of four parts, each produced by a school.
The following common topics were identified:
a) Urban development;
b) Architecture (notable examples);
c) Mobility;
d) Culture and entertainment;
e) Immigration.
For each topic the space reserved for each school will be 40x25 cm. Where possible, the topics will be dealt with both in their present reality and their evolution through history (urban development, architecture, mobility).
3. Sending and arranging material
To send material produced by pupils which cannot be exhibited as a poster, Matzeit Silke and Thomas Schäfer suggested to prepare a small container with drawers: the material produced can be divided according to individual topics. The container will be part of the exhibition and will be sent from one school to another. Franca Giglio and Rita Pinna pointed out that both setting up and shipping the container might be quite complicated as well as expensive. It was then agreed that each school can create its own container which will remain in place.
4. Access to the e-twinning platform.
After the meeting, Maria Teresa Ciaffaroni, Franca Giglio, Patricia Pinna Mateo and Ada Pinna went to the computer room to see that all participating schools were able to access the e-twinning platform .
11.20-13.10
After a coffee break groups reported upon the results of their sessions. From pupils reports six common topics were highlighted instead of the five identified by teachers, namely:
a) Urban development;
b) Architecture;
c) Mobility;
d) Culture and entertainment;
e) Immigration;
f) Schools.
Reports were set up in Power Point format. In the coming weeks arrangements will be made in order to agree on a more precise definition of common topics.
Students from Liceo "Augusto" arranged a buffet lunch for all participants in the multimedia room.
In the afternoon students and teachers reached the Capitol Hill, a symbol of Rome. Students and teachers from Cagliari and Berlin, accompanied by Maria Teresa Ciaffaroni, visited the Senatorial Palace, seat of Rome Council and a few rooms of the Capitoline Museums , while students from Liceo "Augusto", accompanied by Carlo Panizzon, visited the Capitoline Museums, tracking evidence of the most important buildings and monuments of the ancient Capitol Hill.
In the evening all participating students and teachers convened together for a joint dinner in a typical pizzeria near the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano.

8.10-13.10
Starting from Liceo "Augusto" teachers and students reached the Roman Forum to visit the sites of the earliest development of the city of Rome. The visit to the Forum was conducted in two separate groups of about 30 people and illustrated by professional tour guides.
After the visit pupils and teachers gathered near the Arch of Titus for a final farewell. Teachers from each school then made individual arrangement for departure and set the time to reach the airport for their return flight.
